From script to screen — a filmmaker's diary

The idea for Megher Bhitore Rod came during a boat ride on the Padma. It was early morning, and the mist was so thick you could barely see the water. But you could hear it — the gentle lapping against the hull, the distant call of a heron. That moment of sensory immersion became the DNA of our film.
Pre-production took four months. We spent weeks in river communities, listening to stories, understanding rhythms of life that have existed for centuries. Our cultural research team interviewed over thirty families, collecting oral histories that would inform not just the script, but the entire visual aesthetic.
Shooting on water presented unique challenges. Our camera equipment had to be waterproofed, our crew had to learn to work from boats, and we had to time our shoots around the tides. There were days when we waited six hours for the right light, only to have it stolen by clouds. But those waits were never wasted — they became moments of connection with the community.
The color grade was perhaps the most crucial step. We wanted the film to feel warm but not nostalgic, vibrant but not romanticized. Our colorist spent three weeks finding the exact balance — a palette that felt true to the landscape without being literal. The result is something we are deeply proud of.

RM provided full production services including location scouting, cultural research, casting, equipment, and post-production. The film was shot over 14 days across 3 districts in rural Bangladesh with a crew of 25 members.
