FAQ

Common Questions

Who can submit a story?

Anyone who owns or controls the rights to an original story may submit. We welcome submissions from writers, filmmakers, producers, and other storytellers from around the world, provided the story is set in Bangladesh or reflects an authentic Bangladeshi context.

Is there a fee for submission?

No. Story submissions are free of charge. There are no application, submission, or review fees at any stage of the evaluation process.

Can I submit multiple stories?

Yes. You may submit multiple stories, provided each project is submitted separately using its own submission form and supporting materials. Each submission will be reviewed independently.

Do stories need to be set in Bangladesh?

Not necessarily. We welcome stories set in Bangladesh, as well as stories set elsewhere that are meaningfully connected to Bangladesh through its people, culture, history, communities, or lived experiences. Regardless of where the story takes place, it should offer an authentic Bangladeshi perspective or connection.

What languages do you accept?

We currently prefer submissions in Bangla, though stories written in English are also welcome.

Do I retain the rights to my story?

Yes. You retain ownership of your story and all associated intellectual property. By submitting your work, you grant Riverine Motions permission to review and evaluate it only. Any option, development, production, or transfer of rights will require a separate written agreement signed by both parties.

How long does the review process take?

We aim to complete the review process within 60 days. Review times may vary depending on the volume of submissions. You'll receive a submission confirmation email within 48 hours, and we'll notify you once our review is complete.

What types of stories are you looking for?

We're looking for original, compelling stories with strong characters, authentic voices, and meaningful themes. We welcome fiction, documentaries, and other cinematic projects that reflect diverse perspectives, cultural richness, and stories with the potential to connect with audiences both locally and internationally.

What materials should I submit?

Required and optional documents include: logline, synopsis, creative statement, biography, screenplay, treatment, and previous works. Please compile all materials into a single PDF or Word document.

Can I submit a story that has already been published or produced?

Yes, previously published written works may be submitted if you own the rights. However, stories that have already been produced as films, television series, or other screen productions are not eligible.

Can I update my submission after it's been sent?

Yes. If you need to update your submission, please email us with your revised materials and include your original submission details (such as your name, story title, and submission date) so we can locate your project.

What happens if my story is selected?

If your story is selected, we'll contact you to discuss the next steps. This may include story development, script refinement, funding opportunities, and a potential collaboration. Before any development or production work begins, both parties will enter into a separate written agreement outlining rights, responsibilities, and the terms of our collaboration.

Will I receive feedback if my story isn't selected?

Every submission is reviewed with care and respect. While we may share comments or suggestions when appropriate, the level of feedback varies depending on the project and the volume of submissions. Regardless of the outcome, we'll notify you once our review is complete.

What happens to my story if funding cannot be secured?

If funding or production opportunities cannot be secured, the project may not move forward at that time. Unless otherwise agreed in writing, you retain ownership of your story, and any future collaboration or production will require a separate agreement between you and Riverine Motions.

Can I submit the same story elsewhere?

Yes. Until you sign a separate development or exclusivity agreement with Riverine Motions, you remain free to submit your story to other producers, studios, organizations, competitions, or funding programs. If your story is selected for development and both parties enter into a written agreement, the terms of that agreement will determine whether the project can be submitted or offered elsewhere during the development period.

Is my submission confidential?

Yes. We treat every submission with care and confidentiality. Your materials will only be reviewed by the Riverine Motions team and any authorized collaborators involved in the evaluation process. We will not share, publish, or use your story without your permission or a separate written agreement.

Do I need to register or copyright my story before submitting?

While it's not a requirement, we strongly encourage you to register or copyright your story before submitting. Protecting your intellectual property is your responsibility, and doing so provides an additional record of ownership.
